PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR NUCLEAR STRESS TEST
(Adenosine Thallium, Thallium Treadmill, Dobutamine Thallium)

 

PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY TO AVOID RESCHEDULING:

 72 HOURS BEFORE YOUR TEST

  • If you are taking Aggrenox, stop this medicine three days before the exam.

 24 HOURS BEFORE YOUR TEST

  1. NO coffee or tea of any kind.
  2. NO decaffeinated coffee or tea of any kind, including herbal tea.
  3. NO colas or soft drinks including those labeled caffeine free.
  4. NO chocolate (candy, cakes, pies, cocoa, white chocolate, etc.).
  5. NO Anacin, Excedrin, or other aspirin products containing caffeine.
  6. NO Persantine (Dipyridamole).
  7. NO Theophylline type medications.
  8. If you are a diabetic or have breathing problems, please call the office and ask for a nurse or nuclear tech for your instructions.

 THE DAY OF YOUR TEST

  1. Nothing to eat or drink 3 hours before your test. (This includes chewing gum & breath mints)
  2. NO water pills (diuretics) until after your test.
  3. Wear a comfortable two-piece outfit. Avoid wearing dresses, under-wire bras, jumpsuits, or clothing with metallic buttons. (NOTE: Exam area tends to be cold)
  4. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
  5. Bring your medications with you in their original containers.
  6. Bring a high-fat snack (potato chips or peanut butter sandwich) to eat after the stress portion of the exam.
  7. Bring your insurance cards with you.
  8. Arrive 15 minutes early to check-in.

 IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER

  • For best results please follow all instructions carefully.


  • Allow at least 4 hours to complete exam.


  • Only patients will be allowed in the exam area.


  • The radioisotopes for this exam are a special order. Please call us if you are unable to keep your appointment or there will be a charge for the radioisotope.
